Luke 24

The men are missing the next day when the body is to be prepared (you couldn't do that on the Sabbath.) Two men (angels?) tell the women that Jesus is gone (risen) and remind them that he said this would happen before he died. The apostles find out and Peter rushes to the tomb to see for himself.

Jesus finally appears to apostles are walking and the risen Jesus joins them. They do not know it is him until he speaks of the story of the Bible and reenacts the "take, bless, break, give" of the feeding stories and the Lord's Supper. The risen Christ also appears to the disciples again and this time he also starts with scripture and reminds them that sacrifice is at the heart of life. He then gives them a commission (different from the one in Matthew 28:16-20) of forgiveness and helping people to repent (changing their minds through changing their lifestyles) and follow him.

The story ends with Jesus with Jesus being taken up to heaven to be with God, leaving the life of faith in the hands of the Church.
