Luke 20

Jesus starts teaching on the religious leaders' home turf, the Temple. They challenge him because his teaching undermines their grip on the religious establishment, which Jesus sees as vacuous. His authority is from God and they, while they will not admit it, is not. Jesus describes them to be like wicked tenants who reject the owner and his heir. The religious leaders know he is talking about them and they want to kill him.

They then try to trap him on a question of taxes, which, if answered wrong, would make him and enemy of the state and the state would take care of him. Jesus is on to them.

A faction of the leaders (Sadducees,) who have they status due to money and family ties try to make him look the fool. It does not work either. Even some of the educated leaders (scribes) liked his answer! But Jesus even turns on their practices and how they love status and wealth more than God.
